5 Things you should know to Avoid Food Poisons.
from: Shifra MenezesDuring the monsoons, food poisoning cases spike as hygiene and sanitation take a hit. Read these 5 thing need to know to avoid food poisons.
SeaFood: Every one thinks that seafood is one of the
healthiest non-vegetarian choices, but during the monsoons, you run a
higher risk of an upset tummy since often seafood has been frozen or
refrigerated for extended periods
Beverges : Packaged beverages/ aerated drinks are
relatively safer, however, make sure to wipe the outside of the bottle
well, specially around the cap, before taking a sip.
Cooked Food: Food that has been freshly cooked and eaten
hot, soon after preparation is less likely to cause food poisoning.
However, luke-warm food can cause food-poisoning. Re-heated food must
be served piping hot to reduce the chances of an upset tummy.
Refrigeration: Some people thinks that Hot food needs to cool to room temperature before it can be refrigerated otherwise it will spoil, but its wrong. Food
is most likely to spoil at room temperature. Quickly cooling hot food
by placing the dish in a tub of cold water or ice and then
refrigerating ensures that bacterial growth is minimised and the risk
of food poisoning reduced. Also, make sure that meat or fish is covered
when placed in the fridge and placed on the bottom shelves, to prevent
any drippings into dishes below.
Heating food in a microwave, while quick and simple, often leaves cold
spots in the food, which can house bacteria. Using a plastic cover
helps retain steam in the container, thus aiding the cooking process.
Also, stirring the food once or twice during the heating process
ensures that the food is heated all the way through.
