Go organic. Avoid processed food, aerated drinks and sugar. Instead, pick up seasonal fruits, leafy vegetables and brown rice and bread. Note that good substitutes for sugar are organic honey and jaggery
Cut down on caffeine; it’s responsible for lowering your calcium levels, leaving you dehydrated and fatigued and it could lead to osteoporosis too. Switch to herbal teas. Also, coconut water, lemon water and buttermilk make for good drinks. Drink plenty of water
Boost your intake of nuts and seeds as they are high in protein and essential fatty acids. Oils of seeds like sesame and sunflower seeds serve the body well. Flax seeds particularly, which are high in essential fatty acids like Omega 3 and Omega 6, are good help to fight cancer
Eat more sprouts — raw, steamed or sautéed — they are very good for the body, especially the joints. Shun red meat; instead, opt for fish. It lowers blood pressure, blood fats and boosts the ‘good’ cholesterol in your body
Switch to rough salt or sea salt. Iodised salt is not a very good choice as it plays havoc with the hormones
Raisins, apricots and other dry fruits make a great power snack. They help curb the sweet craving and facilitate the release of energy slowly from the body
Cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, sweet potatoes, avocados and olives are foods that women can profit from. Leafy vegetables can help prevent breast cancer. Also, a glass of vegetable juice a day is a must
Do not store your food in plastic
Exercise regularly — yoga is extremely beneficial for the bones, joints and internal organs. n Also, remember to loosen up and spend more time with family and friends.
