Effect of Junk Foods on health, piles Symptoms, Cure, treatment
from: shoheylFried and fast foods may taste good to the palate, but aren’t healthy for the bowels. Case studies of patients who visit the surgical OPDs reportedly indicate almost 60 to 70 per cent of them suffering from piles, which gastroenterologists say has a correlation to the dietary habits.
Worse, piles is no longer considered a problem of only those who are middle aged and beyond the post teenage group, for significantly it has afflicted the younger generation mostly above the age of 20. A finding that is described as ‘disturbing’ and not to be confined to the closed doors of a toilet.
Almost 60 to 70 per cent of patients who visit the surgical OPDs reportedly suffer from piles. The figure being on the higher side, that accept by the most of the hospitals. Doctors advises people to get a check up done immediately when there is flow of blood from the anus while passing motions before it gets too late. If piles is detected at an early stage, it can be treated effectively without surgery. In less severe cases, piles can be controlled with change in the dietary patterns, medicines and minimally invasive technique.
If piles is in grade one and grade two stages, stool softeners and medicines help besides there being a new technique of treatment described as Doppler Guided Haemorrhoidal Arterial Litigation that ligates the blood vessel, but in cases of advanced stages of piles, open surgery is done that is rather painful.

However, a new technique called the non-invasive MIPH or piles stapler surgery is done, which is in a painless area some five to six cm inside the anal verge and takes care of piles all around 360 degrees.Every rectal bleeding is not piles and it should be always screened to prevent the occurrence of colorectal cancer. Major symptoms of piles are pain, bleeding from rectum, anal itching, mucus discharge and the feeling of something coming out from the anus.” The danger signs that suggest that flow of blood can be a case of cancer of the colon is when bleeding is painless. Mucus in stool, altered bowel habits, unexplained anaemia and weight loss and family history of colon cancer are the other aspects that need to be examined to distinguish between piles and colorectal cancer. When detected early, colorectal cancer can be treated.
Low fibre diets, tinned and canned food get absorbed fast leaving a low residue hence the colonic transit time is more besides the carcinogens causing cancer stay longer in the colons that is a great cause of concern as it affects both bowel movements and also leads to colorectal cancer. Piles has an equal incidence for both the genders and for women it is more common during pregnancy because of water retention and hormonal influence though this is a reversible condition. The surgeon urges patients not to confine the problem to the closed doors of the toilet, but come forward and get a check-up done not only get relief from the daily pain, but also avoid any misdiagnosis that could seriously impact health in the long run.
The difference between those who suffer from piles and those who don’t: The anal passage has round washer like cushions which tends to sag down when tangential pressure is exerted on them in case of constipation and when one pushes while passing the motion. Repeated actions over a period of time makes the cushions sag downwards with more blood vessels that then creates the bulge causing piles. Those who do not have constipation, the cushion takes care and as soon as the motion is through, they (cushions) seal the passage and make it air tight, but more the exertion they go through, the cushions get affected and in an advanced stage even come out and need to be pushed inside.
The 100- odd participants at the awareness programme had several queries that largely related to finding out if there was an alternative therapy besides solutions offered from yoga and whether piles could be diagnosed and treated with a blood test and sonography. The normal tendency is self-medication and the stigma attached to piles which discourage those suffering the pain from consulting a doctor. ``But, diagnosis is important even if there can be various treatments on offer though all of them not too effective and of course depending upon what stage the piles is detected.
