Solutions to fight and prevent Child Obesity, overweight kids articles

from: Dortas

Childhood obesity is a growing problem in worldwide. With fast food chains springing up all over the city apart from deep-fried desi stuff, it’s just a matter of time till we catch up with America, sizewise! Hence to avoid eating in haste and repenting at leisure, cultivate healthy habits in your kids early enough.

Control supply

Though your kids will crave less nutritious foods, you decide what foods are regularly stocked in the house. Kids will eat what’s available. To give them their freedom of choice, let them decide what to eat and how much. This way, they will choose only from the foods you buy!

Count drinks calories

Aerated and other sweetened drinks add extra calories. Water and milk are the best drinks for kids. Juice is fine when it’s 100 per cent fruit juice and completely unsweetened, but kids don't need this either — four to six ounces a day is enough.

Don’t force

Let them stop eating when they feel full. When kids notice and respond to feelings of fullness, they’re less likely to overeat.

Don’t give up

If your child doesn’t like green leafy veggies the first time around, don’t stop serving them. Kids are naturally slow to accept new tastes and textures, so keep reintroducing the green vegetable. Serve a small portion and encourage your child to try a bite without nagging.

Don't be too sweet

Occasional sweets are fine, but don’t turn dessert into the main reason for eating dinner. Kids, then, naturally place more value on the ice-cream than the broccoli.

Food is not love

Find better ways to say “I love you.” When foods are used to reward kids and show affection, they may start using food to cope with stress or other emotions.

Be a role model

Eat healthy yourself.  Choose nutritious snacks, eat at the table, and don’t skip meals.
