Healthy Items to eat At South Indian restaurants and Punjabi restaurant

from: Glvoer

There is nothing wrong with indulging in restaurant food every once in a while. But, we city dwellers tend to over-do it with eating out at least two to three times per week. This not only upsets the stomach but also causes problems such as indigestion, excessive calorie intake, weight gain, etc. So here is the guide on what to order when eating out

 At a South Indian restaurant

This one is one of the healthiest cuisines. South Indian food light on the stomach and most of the dishes are laden with vegetables and cereals. The best thing to eat at a South Indian joint is steamed idli and crispy dosas. The batter used to make these has good quantity of rice and dal mixture which is perfect for an Indian’s diet. Secondly, since the batter is fermented it is loaded with amino acids that are a good source of protein. Opt for dosas that are stuffed with vegetables such as tomatoes, carrots, beet, etc instead of the calorific potatoes and cheese. One may even indulge in bowls of rasam and sambar which contain vitamins that come through vegetables such as pumpkin and drum stick and act as an instant digestive.

 At a Punjabi restaurant

This is something that we end up eating very often in our country. Punjabi food is heavy in terms of calories, thanks to the usage of cream, butter and ghee. It is also partially nutritious as lots of fresh vegetables go into making Punjabi subjis and gravies. The don’ts here are simple – avoid spicy gravies that upset the stomach and breads made out of maida. Instead, dishes with vegetables such as cabbage, lady finger and green peas are a good bet. In terms of bread you could opt for rotis made out of jowar, bajra, corn or whole wheat flour. These are not only filling but nutritious too. If the paneer is low fat and pure you can indulge in it too. Make sure you end up your meal with a glass of butter milk to improve digestion.
